Corum is perhaps the only Swiss watch company that has not known recessions, and even "it survived the notorious quartz crisis easier than others. And all because from the day of its foundation, Corum has not chased after quantity, releasing watches for the elite.
Corum developed so rapidly that after only a few years it was difficult to imagine modern watchmaking without it. Rene Bannwart, an ingenious designer and founder of the company from La Chaux-de-Fonds, made a bet on stylish, expensive and rare watches.
We can say that before Bannwart, Swiss watches looked pretty much the same: a round or rectangular case, dials with classical markings and hands, most of which were invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet.

And suddenly a company appeared that began to produce watches with an ultra-thin case and a dial made of a gold coin (Coin Watch Golden Eagle), models with almost no hour markings or Roman numerals engraved on a wide horizontal rim (Romulus).
Or sports and jewelry watches in a square case with an anatomical bend (Admiral's Cup and Buckingham), Rolls-Royce cars with a case and a dial resembling a limousine radiator grille, and finally, ladies' models in the form of a lipstick tube (Golden Tube) or a hat (Chapeau Chinois)!
All these watches were different not only by design, but also in relation to their creation. Previously, watchmakers "danced" from the mechanism that set the shape of the case and everything else.
Corum was the first to start from the original form, inventing unique calibers for it. An unheard-of audacity, but it attracted progressive-minded masters to cooperate with Corum.
So, for example, in 1980, with the assistance of watchmaker Vincent Calabrese, another wonderful Golden Bridge model appeared in the arsenal of the company in a transparent sapphire case with a mechanism, the winding drum, the wheel drive and the descent of which were placed on a thin supporting beam in the form of a bridge.
Competitors do not have such watches to this day. As there is no mechanical clock with an indicator of the time and strength of the tides, which were born in the same year. It's about Admiral's Cup Tides. When Rene Bannwart decided to retire at the beginning of this century, he sold the company to the equally brilliant designer and watchmaker Severin Wunderman.
He gave a new powerful impetus to the development of Corum by introducing amazing models Rocket, Trapeze, Sugar Cube, Bubble, Potpourri, and refreshed previous hits — Coin Watch, Admiral's Cup, Buckingham and Golden Bridge. In 2007, the Corum company was headed by Antonio Calcet; with him, many of the previous sensational models fell out of the cage.
But Kalche considered his main task to be the reconstruction of production, taking into account the incredible possibilities of nanotechnology. Now the Corum emblem — the key pointing to the sky, symbolizing the unraveling of the meaning of existence and the conquest of new heights, is in the hands of an experienced businessman Jacques-Alain Vuillet.
